Do Straplocks Come Off?

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a Moody Leather strap a few months ago and installed Dunlop Straplocks on it. I want to make the strap shorter so I want to get an extra hole drilled in the tailpiece. Is there a way to take the straplock off and put it in the new hole once it's drilled? I've been trying but I can't figure out a way to get it off.

You have to remove that metal C clip that was such a pain to install in the first place. There's actually a tool made just for that, but I usually improvise. Fortunately I haven't yet lost any fingers or eyes in the process.

P.S. It's a good thing that the Dunlop clip is so hard to remove. With the other popular brand, the equivalent securing mechanism tends to fall off all by itself.
