Do Winamp and MusicMatch Jukebox sound different?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been using Winamp to listen to audio CDs on my desktops since the beginning of time. Many years ago I got a new Dell desktop that came with MusicMatch Jukebox, but I never used it, since I installed Winamp. Then one day I tried MusicMatch, and it sounded more dynamic and more open, with a fuller low end, than Winamp. On both, the default settings are used, with the EQ off, and no special effects that I know of are active.

Am I imagining things or has anyone else noticed a difference between the two?

Thanks,

Nightbass

Yup MM is better. Yahoo pulled the plug on it a while back. Too bad, really. The DFX add-on makes MM really rock through my system. BTW, anyone know how to turn on all the features to make the "plus" "deluxe". I installed my copy on this new machine, and the key takes it to "plus" until I register online. Trouble is, the "online" is gone.

It's really based on what your hardware supports, beyond that it's just innovative EQ'ing and effects.

+1. I like winamp, great EQ/Pre and Plug-ins. Plus both my roommate across the hall and I use Winamp so we put on the same playlist and sync up so we can both listen to music in our rooms at high volume without dissonance (nerds).

You guys might consider JetAudio as well, there are numerous effects set to default. I was listening to a MIDI file and it even sounded better through JetAudio. Just a suggestion...

LOL to amos' post!

What about the codecs used by the products? Could one be audibly better or utilized in a different way than the other?
