Alpaca farm??
Talk about a life style change.
Judging from his web site he sounds like a happy guy and that's all that maters.
For some reason I can't get the mental picture out of my head of him feeding his stock and singing "Get the Funk Out". |

he seems incredibly happy...granted I only talked with him for a couple hours, it seems like alpacas are his real calling.

| | | I'm trying to talk my band into doing Cupid's Dead. I'm all like "Bring on the crazy syncopated guitar solo that the bass doubles note-for-note," but man, some of those vocal harmonies scare the bejesus out of me, especially the prechorus harmony.

That's cool you met Pat and his critters. | Wow, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I use to own one of the N4 prototype Washburns that I got from Nuno. Sold it at the height of their popularity in the early 90's to a collector for something like 4 times what I bought it for.

Nuno's brother Paul just started up his band again, too...anyone remember FLESH? Revival concert Sept 22 I think....Hudson Mass...
Those Bettencourts, always up to something!

Not that I am biased or anything, but Pat struck me as clearly the most likable and down-to-earth guy in the group. Needless to say, he was all for a reunion. IIRC - the drummer who is still in the music business (agent? producer?) was also willing but didn't think the Cherone and Bettencourt would go along. He was correct and they didn't. At least back then.
However, they did just do a 3-show mini-reunion this summer. The lesson - never say never.

I was really into Nuno when Schizophonic came out. But I lost a lot of respect for him as a person at a show in Boston when Slash's Blues Ball opened for him. Nuno spent a lot of time between songs ragging on Slash for playing covers.
Yeah, Nuno had just released a beautiful album of originals but IMO that still didn't give him the right to rank on other musicians who are out there also trying to make a living and put on a good show, and Slash did put on a good show. It just seemed like a really non-classy move on Nuno's part.
I know that Nuno put a lot of himself into that Schizophonic album and put on a hell of a show that night but let the work stand on its' own. I mean how many people on this board have played covers at one time or another. Just about every one of us, I bet.
Peace,

Despite that, I was always (and still am) blown away by Nuno's playing. I think he's incredible.
I love that guitar/bass breakdown in Cupid's Dead. Very cool. Three Sides to Every Story was a great disc overall I thought. It sounded great too.

I would have told Pat that his bass playing ruled on the "Super Transatlantic" record with Jason Bieler (formerly Saigon Kick's lead songwriter). I heard all those songs when Jason let them out as demos at his no longer active "BVB MUSIC" web site, and Pat's bass added a LOT to the stuff.

In my extremely unprofessional opinion, I think they COULD take off IF dear Nuno gets off his high horse and goes the indie route. The majors are through with him -- he's been shoppingthis phenomenal music around for how long now? Long time. I think that if he can live with being on an indie, and he finds an indie that doesn't suck, then there would be a chance for the Dramagods to come into their own.
Paulo actually came on tour with my band this spring and I agree with whoever said he's a cool cat. He's a peach, very talented, and very, very musical. He really helped me out a lot; it' safe to say that if anyone likes my vocals, it's Paul that deserves the thanks. The man can sing and harmonize like a mofo.

He needs to talk to the guys in King's X, Gary Numan, and others about the advantages of modern independant distribution. Particularly if you already have somewhat of a name/fanbase! Though, honestly, I'm not convinced of the medium scale commercial viability of his post-Extreme output. I personally LOVE it, everything I've heard, which is all the albums and some singles (like the import "Crave" single with non-album tracks), but the latest album doesn't abound in hooks (though there are definitely some there), his music never really did.
Back on topic... Pat Badger's bass playing is great on Extreme and SuperTransatlantic. I have no opinion on the cashmere his Alpacas contribute to.

She claims Paulo's a great guy, down to earth, etc. And she claims Nuno is...Well.... Not.
And yes, I agree that Pat was certainly an underrated bassist. I used to love many of his Extreme lines. I've never heard his SuperTransatlantic stuff.
