Do you hate guitar players? If so, why?

I see a lot of anti-guitar comments on here and guitarists are the but of a lot of jokes here. I was just wondering is their some sort of rivalry between guitar and bass players I don't know about?

Do you really hate guitar players or only tolerate them, or is this all in good fun? If you hate guitar plaers, why? Name some personal experiences. I don't like generalizations and all guitar players aren't shallow, self centered megagods. In fact, most are pretty down to earth and cool!

I love (almost) my guitar player. He was about to leave once and I cringed. He is perfect for what we're doing. We've actually had a very hard time finding a second one on the same page as us.

Mmm, not really. I think that after Kurt Cobain killed the guitar hero in 1991-92, guitar players had to stop soloing so much, getting less attention and being more equally with the drummer and bass player.

Singers and frontmen, though, still take the crown, and are as egocentric as ever.

I'd have to partially agree with the above quote. I do despise stupid guitar players, and those that think they are rock-stars. Generally, guitarists are not bad people until they get a guitar in their hands, then everything goes haywire. Ego sets in, along with a severe Napolean complex in the band situation. Thus, if you keep your guitarist in check, he's bound to be much less of an egomaniac....LOL

I am a guitar player as well as a bass player. And yes, I hate myself when I play bass. Likewise when I play guitar I don't even notice myself.

No, of course not. It's all in good fun.
Mostly jokes about the stereotype.

Anything else is probably more on a personal level. (ie. I don't like my guitarist because......)

Yeah I really hate guitar players. I have worked err tried to work with 4 diferent guitarists so far. All of them are egomaniacal, and none of them ever respected me as a a musician, they tried to just get me to translate notation for them and play boring lines while they solo. One of them hacked my myspace account and hotmail. Maybe Ive just worked with the wrong people but I find that other bass players are just a lot cooler and more laid back.

I only hate the stereotypical guitarist, you know... the one who tries way too hard, can play extremely complicated rock riffs but has no idea how to lay down a groove, or play it with feeling.

Since I am also a guitarist... no I don't hate myself.

It's all in good fun and provides a nice alternative to drummer jokes.

Only the ones that insist on playing 30db greater than the rest of the band and think the only stage light should be on their hands.

Oh, and the ones that think bass players become bass players because they couldn't make it as a guitarist.

Dumbass's

But then, there's so great guitarists out there.

It's mostly in good fun; a way to vent a little steam by poking fun at the stereotype. Then again, they say that all humor is ultimately rooted in anger, and this probably proves the point...

I've personally been very fortunate to have worked with some pretty cool players - in fact, I can't recall one who was really an egomaniacal dope. Then again, I tend to spot those types a mile away and take preventive measures, so as to avoid them...

naw, I've always been kewl with guitarists. the whole feud thing is just a buncha horse-play..

for example: whenever I chill with one of my guitar buds, we spend almost the whole time making guitar and bass jokes about each other. All in good fun.

Ummmmm Aren't BASS PLAYERS guitar players? Bass GUITAR? :-) I think a better question is do you hate fellow musicians? Let's face it ... we've all had issues with one musician or another ... doesn't matter what they play. Personally I have issues with people who don't pull their weight when it comes time to move equipment! ...... And THAT''S USUALLY in bands I've played in who have people who just sing. These non-musician SINGERS often have ego issues and don't like moving equipment and that burns my butt. So I've always gotten along great with all other musicians ... I just am not happy working with all other "people!" (Meaning it's not what they play that's important... it's who they are and how they act that can sometimes be an issue.)

It's just good fun on my part.

The reason there's a stereotype about egotistical guitarists mostly because we've all met at least one.

Yup, I'm with the general opinion here: It's about hating the stereotype, and beyond that we're just having some harmless fun. Every guitar player I know takes jabs at me and my bassist status, and I jab right back, but they all respect my abilities and I respect theirs, so everything's cool, really.

I hate idiots. Sometimes said idiot is a guitarist... But sometimes said idiot is a bassist/drummer/singer/keyboardist/horn player/xylophonist/ or triangle virtuoso. I hold no instrumental prejudice. Has nothing to do with the instrument played, it has everything to do with an individual's personality. If I know a guitar player who's a full blow jerk, I don't make guitar-related cracks. I simply call him a full blown jerk.

Kinda like.... NEVERMIND!!!!
