Just wondering if most bass players here also play guitar. Like electric or acoustic. Do you?

A little for fun sometimes but i dont really like it!
I get bored of it really fast, not as satisfying as playing bass in my opinion.

Yes, Acoustic. I love to write songs and plan to hopefully someday perform and record them. I started on guitar at 10 and when i got back to music at 40 went to bass to perform with. I love singing songs with my daughter (5) As much as I love bass but i am much more expressive and creative on guitar. I can sit and watch my daughter play, watch TV and pick on the guitar. I cant do this with bass...never could. I can practice songs with bass but thats about it. I am a decent guitar player but quickly getting it back and improving. The funny thing is i can sing with guitar quite well...bass not so well.

I started on guitar. Took up bass because the band I joined had too many guitar players. I enjoyed the sound of my instrument a lot more as a bass player so I stayed.

I play classical (I can whip off a fairly mean Mood for a Day) and I have 6 and 12-string steel string acoustics, plus a JBP Strat clone that I use for demoing songs. I use a guitar to compose.

Interestingly, I have never played an electric guitar live. I took one over to my drummer's house to show him one of my new songs and found that I had one HELL of a time making it sound right. That was when I realized that the difference between a guitarist and a bassist is more than just the strings. It's knowing how to make your sound work in a band setting. A skill I developed as a bass player without really consciously being aware of it.

I try. I've owned a strat for about ten years, but in that time it got about ten hours of play time. But since starting to build my bedroom studio, I've been practicing with guitar a lot. I still suck at it, but it's fun and with some practice and often several takes I can get play my modest guitar parts on my own songs. And I love slapping the damn thing.

I'm thinking of buying an acoustic. Not to hijack the thread, but if anyone has any recommendations for affordable steel string acoustics, I'd like to hear 'em. Electronics not needed or even wanted.

drums were my first instrument; dabbled around with the banjo a bit back in the 70's; never played guitar

I've been playing guitar almost as long as I've been playing bass. It's a great tool for songwriting.

I took guitar lessons as a kid long before I started playing bass. Still enjoy playing both acoustic and electric. I am spending much more time with the bass so my guitar skills have slumped a bit, but I still enjoy it.

I do, and have done for about 21 years now, and I suck at it...

Much better at bass, and enjoy it way more

I love acoustic guitar and have been playing it as a second instrument for almost 10 years now. I dabbled in electric years ago. Its helped me understand chord theory, gave me a good visual knowledge of the instrument that helps in ensembles, and has generally mad me a more versatile musician. Now if only I could play piano...

Yes. I started on guitar when I was 13. Played off and on for many years. Picked up bass at the request of the band director at my church. They needed a bass player so I volunteered. That was about 13 years ago. Since then I only dabble on the guitar. Good bass players tend to be harder for a band to find. I sometimes use my acoustic guitar to learn bass parts by playing along with songs on my computer. I have been in bands ever since switching to bass and devote my time to learning bass parts.

Yes and I love it. Both acoustic and electric. I am a somewhat decent player, but often times I want to play something and my fingers just don't do what I want to do.

I play acoustic guitar and sometimes do a one man band thing with it, or host open mic nights. I never really had the talent to play lead. Playing bass is always my first choice.

I play both, started on bass but picked up guitar 6 or so years ago because I felt left out at campfires. I write on guitar but prefer bass in a band setting.

I started playing acoustic a couple years after bass, and now I play a lot of electric. Like some guys have said it's a great writing tool, and IMO much better around a campfire than an acoustic bass
