Do you pop your knuckles before you play bass?

Some people say it's bad, some say it doesn't matter.
Me, I pop 'em before I play, because it makes me feel good. I feel more loose.

Do you pop yours?

Yes. Quite frequently. Bad habit, but I really don't care. I could think of many worse habits.

I've always popped my knuckles. I've never had a problem.

I'm bad about popping my knuckles while I play. I have no idea what gives me the desire, or how I do so without losing time.

Pop my ears more than I pop my knuckles.

From my understanding, excessive popping of knuckles could potentially lead to problems, but most people are fine.

Most definitely I do. I've talked to 2 physicians that both say that popping your knuckles is actually good for you, and reduces the chance of arthritis.

I've heard it both ways. It seems that the doctors change thier minds every year.

i have since i was 6. at some point i quit for a few weeks and my hands got so stiff i could hardly play. could have been in my head, but i very much prefer loosening them up at least once a day. every joint in every finger.

as a result, ive got the biggest knuckles on earth

its either genetics or this is direct result of ~15 years of knuckle cracking

I do occasionally, but not everytime I'm going to play.

I always did before a gig, along with various other stretching and limbering exercises of the fingers. I've never had a problem.

I crack whenever something feels stiff, not just my knuckles, but my toes, knees, back, neck, sternum... in the morning my bedroom sounds like a chiropractor's office!

Same here. My back and neck cracks like a bag of heated popcorns. And my knuckles, yes I pop em', constantly and especially before playing. Haven't had any problems, yet.

For the rest of us, lets hope that's genetic!

I do it cause it's a habit and also because they crack due to the arm and tendon exercises I do before picking up my bass.
