Do you see a prog/symphonic rock influence in this CD cover ?

We`re designing the art for our upcoming album. Some of my bandmates like this design but I associate it with symphonic / progressive rock. I like that kinda music but it`s not the genre we play.

Do you find certain similarities ?
Can anyone point me some albums with "planets" like that in their cover ?

Thanks

What kind of music do you play?

Personally, I'd crop the guy out of the picture and go with the rest of it. I like it. I wouldn't necessarily call it progressive looking. To me, it says "mysterious" and makes me want to look into the picture more. Yes had several albums with planets on them and a sci-fi theme, so maybe that's what you're thinking?

Makes me think of Symphony X, not because I would ever listen to them, but because of all of the ads they put in guitar mags. I'm personally a fan of simple/tasteful/retro/subdued album covers, but it's your choice.

I like it, and I don't think it shouts "prog" at all.

You shouldn't crop out the guy either... he's the drummer, no?

Seriously, I like it as is.

So, is the smoke coming out of his ear "chronic" like Dr. Dre or Cypress Hill?

I do think it looks prog/symphonic except for the guy with the smoke, so I think it's funny that others said to crop him out. I'd go the other direction, emphasize him and crop some of the moon to de-emphasize it. Also make your text a bit bigger and clearer.

Judging just by the artwork, it looks like you do songs about wizards and celestial bodies and legends and stuff and one or more of your members plays at least eight different keyboards.

Ha, ha.

No that`s not our music.
No legends, celestial bodies or wizards in our lyrics (and no keyboards). It`s basically rock in the vein of STP to name an influence (at least for me

But that`s what I was referring too, I tend to associate it with that kinda music.

Okay. Any contrapuntal interplay among the instruments, perhaps with an occasional 7/8 measure here and there?

If your music's in the vein of STP, then I think your artwork should be a bit earthier and oblique.

Does Justin Timberlake know you are using his pic?

I like the album cover personally. I think it's cool.

I think posting art for comments on a user forum is a recipe for grief and disaster.

Why? Surely it's not too hard to weed out the jokers from the good advice.
