Do you think this would cause problems???

I just recently started a new band.
So far its a 3-piece and soon to be a 4 piece once we find a steady drummer.

We've written several songs so far.
We write all of the music and the arrangements, but our lyrics to all of the songs have been written by a close friend who is involved in the band - he does the artwork and will be taking on more of a manager's role, but he doesn't play an instrument in the band.

Do you think its wise to have somebody contribute lyrics who is not necessarily "IN" in the band, but is involved with it?
When we bring in a drummer, do you think that person would not be ok with having an outside source for the lyrics?

The person writes really good lyrics and is a very good artist.

Thoughts?

Why would it be ? Bernie Taupin writes all the lyrics for Elton John and it works. Just be sure to have an agreement on who is the actual owner of the song. I'm not up to date on copyright law, but that might come into action if you ever decide to record or if the band splits up and you want to perform the songs with another band.

First thing I thought of. Richard Palmer-James wrong King Crimson's lyrics without contributing music as well.
