Do you wash your hands?

Lately I've noticed that I can't stand starting to practice or play unless I've washed my hands first. That grubby feeling just weirds me out and I don't want pizza all over my guitar strings.

Anybody else this way?

Yes. I always wash my hands before and after I play bass.

Yes, always do, before and after playing. When I used to play outside my home, I always carried a little bottle of Purell or something similar...I just hate the feeling of grub in my hands before touching my bass or having sweaty hands in the middle of a playing session.

I try to. I'm a newspaper press mechanic and my hands are never really clean, though.

Yes absolutely, unless providentially hindered.

I definitely have to after a practice session or gig. I'll only make sure to wash before I play if I was working on a car or something beforehand.

I'm on the other end of the opinion base here. I wash them after I set up but don't like to get them wet ... or dirty during gigs. So I WIPE them with a towel between sets to get rid of greese or sweat but don't wash them and i NEVER eat finger food during a gig.

Gotta be clean. I like having baby wipes in my save-the-gig bag for mid-set use.

I'm mild-to-moderately OCD, and I do wash them often.

I saw the thread title & thought this can't be good.

I guess I'm in the minority, I never felt a need to wash my hands before, during, or after playing. I do wipe them occasionally if needed (sweaty) with a towel. I will wash if I eat prior to playing. grease adds mojo.

And, I always wash my hands after the bathroom.

As I mentioned in my OP, I just recently started NEEDING to do this - maybe it's OCD or something.

And you want to hear something shocking? I rarely wash my hands after the bathroom...you know...if it's #1. My thing is SO much cleaner than any other part of my body. That's my logic. Ok so everybody can tell me how deranged I am, and I'm sure I probably am. btw, I do go through the motions of washing my hands when other guys are in the bathroom, so they don't know who I really am. And speaking of bathrooms, why do guys think it's ok to fart right next to you just because it's in the bathroom? To me THAT is offensive.

I never used too. But I always made sure my hands weren't filthy or anything. But now I have to wash my hands thoroughly before every practice, because I own a Stingray with a maple neck.

Even when your hands LOOK clean, they leave crap all over maple fretboards if you don't wash before you play.

About the bathroom part; I used to be that way. Now I really do wash my hands because it's just the considerate thing to do.

So I take it you never feel any of the backsplash off the urinal, where who knows who has left their various and sundry pathogens, huh?

Reminds of those older guys that walk in and make the "pfschew" sound like they JUST made it to the bathroom in time and let'em rip.

Can't stop laughing

You're making me sick thinking about it. ;-)
You should see my routine!

I've got OCD when it comes to washing my hands before playing. I try to keep my bass as clean as possible and try to make my strings last as long as possible.

Gross! (but true..they need a new drug for that, or maybe Viagra helps with that too.)
