Does Anybody Else Write Music Digitally?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've found that a lot of the time, when a new riff or what have you pops in to my head, I have to play it pretty quick, then write it down so I don't forget it.

Often times, it results in me going and trying to write a song around it, using whichever program I have open at the time, either PowerTab or GuitarPro.

Anybody else do this?

I want to attach my most recent work, done while watching Hero, and inspired by the old blind Gulin player in the scene at the chess house. Unfortunately, can't attach .wav files.

If anybody's interested in hearing it, AIM me at NekoNoMaru.

I do it all the time. Sometimes I just record straight from my acoustic into my laptop's mic, otherwise it's on Logic.

I have a DAW at home, but I have a Zoom HandyCorder thing with 1/4" ins. I keep it in my car, so I can hum into the mic if I don't have a guitar / bass handy, and record direct in when I do. Oh, and I can bootleg shows with it too...comes with Cubase. Pretty awesome for two bills...

I write/record a lot with Reason.

Everything but the first 2 songs on the link to my solo stuff in my sig is done exclusively with Reason.

I first write down the rhythm in standard notation then figure out which notes to put in-but i could see where doing it digitally would be faster and more accurate

i carry a digital recorder and when the line hits, i break out the recorder and sing it. later, i work it out on the instrument (if it's bass, if not i send the mp3 to my guitar player) and write it down on paper in standard notation.

Well, I mean actually composing it all digitally, not so much recording it digitally. I have a handheld recorder as well, but I tend to actually write music completely on my computer without playing so much as a note of it (though i generally do when I get confused with how to time some notes).

Oh...hahaha, sorry. I used to write up lots of fun random stuff in MIDI and the like, beats and simple melodies but not much past that...

Well, seeing as I am currently bandless, this is how I have to write scores. :P

If it's good enough, I'll remember it. If not, then I won't. Simple enough.
