We ALL know how AWESOME the bass is. But, of course, there are other cool instruments out there as well.
Anyone play the violin? Viola? Cello?
I play the violin. And, sadly, I do not know how to play the bass. [Hence my name] But I still think the bass is awesome! =DD

This afforded me the time to learn many instruments fluently. Besides the obligatory bass, drums & guitar, my "other main" instruments were in the saxophone family (soprano, alto, tenor & baritone). Thanks to my sax playing, it gave me a full scholarship in college. In addition, I learned nearly every woodwind & brass instrument in a traditional concert band.
What can I say? I've never been one of those guys who was content on learning a singular instrument. I wanted to know how to play it all. |

I play a mean baritone ukulele...

I have a bachelor's degree in music education, but except for 2 months of playing orchestral bass in my string teaching methods class back in the fall of 1994, I didn't start electric bass until January 2005.
My other areas of music are:
Percussion
Voice
Oboe
And I can make noise at several other wind instruments such as flutes and recorders, and I have limited ability on piano and guitar.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Brooklyn, NY | | | I've been (re)focusing on the classical guitar and for about two years now. That's pretty much all I've been doing outside of rehearsals and gigs on bass. I studied when I was younger but recently began revisiting it and trying to pick up where I left off. It's a challenge to keep my fingernails short enough for bass but long enough for guitar.
I also play quite a bit of mandolin, both classical and jazz but also chôro and bluegrass as well. I can play some cello but haven't messed with one in quite some time.
In college I minored in classical percussion with an emphasis on snare drum, keyboard mallets and timpani. I wish I had easier access to a marimba and/or vibraphone. I miss them!
I also play saxophone and trumpet, although no longer at any real level of proficiency. I used to play lots of classical on those instruments but my chops quickly diminished after focusing my attention on acoustic and electric bass and drums.
