need to be done when packing a bass when shipping?

And, yes, I know what the heck I'm talking about: Check out where I work. Also, I used to work at Bass Central, and we received basses from just about every bass builder you can think of - if Mike Tobias, Vinnie Fodera, Rob Elrick, Ken Smith, etc, etc, etc, all ship their basses tuned to pitch, who you gonna believe, them or the moron at the UPS Store?

We NEVER ship a bass without it being tuned to pitch, whether it's to my dealer down the street, or my dealer in Japan, they leave this shop tuned up.

Slacking the strings will actually contribute to neck problems, unless you remove ALL tension from the truss rod as well, and even then it will probably not be the best choice.

It's perfectly safe to ship the bass tuned to pitch, anything you hear to the contrary is an old wife's tale (i.e. hogwash).
