Sometimes, I visit TB and it get motivated to practice more. For me, it seems more often that I get on TB and I use up my practice time reading threads.

I know TB is a great place to learn techincal things about bass and bass equipment, etc. but I wonder...

Do you practice more after getting on TB for awhile?
or does TB distract you and eat up your practice time?

I'm on TB for probably no more than 5 minutes at a time. We rehearse 2-3 times a week, so I really don't practice at home any more. So no distaction. Other than to my wallet when TB gives me a little GAS.

Sorry. The poll got up there after the thread was started. TB has it set up so you can't make a poll until you've posted the thread so the polls are always late.

Distract. Why am I even on here?

BTW it doesn't distract me from practicing - it does distract me from work though!

I am never coming on here again. Bye!

I don’t practice much, so although I spend time here, it really doesn’t affect my practice.

This forum has no effect on my practice TIME.

It has had an effect on the QUALITY of my practice.

I spend more time trying things that make me a better player overall, now that I have read some pointers and tricks by the "experts" here.

Well I do spend a fair amount of time on here but for the most part, looking at cool gear and talking about bassists usually makes me want to go play.

A whole lot of both. But I definitely see TB doing more harm than good for me and my bass playing. All my bass knowledge I owe to this place and it's thanks to it (you guys) that I have my Youtube channel and it doesn't sound like ass.

TB distracts me, forums distracts me, I'd spend much more time doing other stuff if there were no forums.

I'm generally more distracted, but TB has occasionally motivated me by things I've read, or videos I've watched that others have posted, etc.

I think it's about 50/50 give and take for me. Half the time I wish I could find something more productive to do. The other half of the time I feel very fortunate to have such a great resource available to me, and I learn quite a bit from other's experiences.

There is a lot of learning material here for use when needed. I have found so much information about repair and weirdness that goes with it. Its very valuable to me.

However -

I spend an hour or two sometimes looking through repair threads just to see how everyone else is doing something that I've been doing for years. My way usually works fine but sometimes you find something really neat that other people do or tools that other people use that make my job WAYYYYYYYYY easier.

It just takes a long long time to find it.

TB doesn't keep me from playing/practicing. I usually use it as a distraction from other things I should be doing. For instance, I should be writing a paper right now. Sometimes it keeps me from getting to bed at a reasonably hour. I'm only on it when I wouldn't normally be playing/practicing anyway.
