does working out songs by ear help your mind?

when i started playing my ear was rubbish, it took 2 years of listening to CDs and standing with my bass trying to work out songs by ear....it would take a week to work out one song , now it takes about an hour.....so now that my ear is in has all this effort in thinking power and listening power actually helped me in other day to day thought activities?

I don't see why not. After all, your excersising you brain by making it concentrate on the finer details of the song.

The more songs you learn, the quicker & easier it is to learn 'em. So one can suppose your thought process is getting sharper.

I once heard my phone ring outside through a blaring song. The girl I was with was really impressed.

Musically it makes it a lot easier to jam with people when you don't know the same songs. Especially open mics n stuff.
