Does your bass collection encroach on the rest of your house? Or does you partner set limits? Is there only one room that you can fill with them?
I got 6 wall hooks from a great place on ebay and I wanted to mount some basses. http://mysite.verizon.net/reszkxga/
I wanted to put one up on the wall in the living room so I could practice (I said .. but i think i like it as art) my wife said no but I could put one in the library on the same floor.
Then I put one in the bedroom (80 Vantage). She said it looked nice ... but problem is I want to put the twin (81 Vantage) on the other side of the bed ... I haven't broached that one yet.........
My music set-up takes up half the basement and my teenage son (16) feels encroached because he used to have the basement to himself.
I wanted to mount some basses on the other side of the "band room/basement" but he objected because his space has been breached (why a 16-year-old doesn't love a band room in his house I will never know because frankly that is all I ever wanted but have not been able to realize this dream until recently (decades old dream but the demands of 5 kids makes a guy forget his rock in roll dreams (for a couple decades anyway).
Frankly I would like a house like John Entwistle with wall to wall basses (and maybe a couple guitars if I couldn't find enuff basses to fill all the walls).
But I guess I shouldn't complain. My basses now inhabit every floor of the house ... When I want to mount one in the bathroom ... then my wife should start worrying! |

It's the studio, and quite frankly, between kids running into it to get out back, and laundry piling up in it (my iso booth is the laundry room with some Aurelex in), I'd say it's more like the rest of the house encroaches on my space.
Retribution may be in order. My guitar rig may find its way into our bedroom again. The kids may lose toy space to a locked microphone cabinet. That sort of thing.
Bass hanger in the bathroom? Brilliant! As soon as I get another bass that's exactly where I'm hanging one of my old ones.

We pretty much have taken over the basement with the band set up and multiple guitars and basses every where. they dont seem to mind as long as they stay down there.

I have encroached a bit since I now keep my gigging rig in the vestibule. Just so I don't have to carry it up and down the stairs. But the vestibule was empty anyway. |

1. Utilised to the enjoyment of the remaining members of the nest.
2. Not available, should the "moving out" be reconsidered by departed members.
My teenage son is a guitarist so he assists me achieve these goals most willingly.
Are there LIMITS? Well, we settle these thing democratically - when a room is declared vacant we (wife, son, me) consider how best to use this new space, each offerring ideas (eg bass practice room, guitar practice room, we should leave it spare for guests [who's idea was that?], etc) a decison is achieved by a vote of the remaining members of the household. And as my son and I often find "Two against one. We lose." |

I have 8 guitars on the wall a few more in a rack and have all of my cases in the attic. Outside of the occasional guitar or bass in the bedroom or other living area, you wouldn't know I owned guitars/basses. |

We are able to a Vox AC-30 combo on top of a road case, Fender Deville combo on road case, custom Maryland drum kit, my 3 Ampeg 810's, 2 Svt-classics, an svt-4 and all of our dead cases, as well as pedals, percussion equipment, an acoustic piano, and other musical things. We're pretty lucky that the rents don't mind . In my room my practice rig is an SVT-AV and 810 AV. I also keep all of my basses on a road read 7 guitar holder which holds 5 basses and 1 acoustic bass. I am purchasing my first "real" guitar on monday and that will complete the rack.
So to answer, it does not encroach. There are times I have GAS attacks and my gf completely supports it since she believes in my band, my best friends (and brother) I play with and my bass playing She also says at least my drug is bass and not anything else. True love

They're off to the sides and out of the way, hell I even have my amp set up there to when I'm not gigging. As far as my spouse goes, she doesn't care and in fact likes my basses.

My wife and I have a big room that has our bedroom in one end, and the other end has our computer desks, 46" tv and my equipment. All of my basses are hanging on the wall.

| | | | I wouldn't say encroach, but I'm in a 1000 square foot condo... And my room is TINY... The roommate doesn't like them in the living room (and I wouldn't want them there... What the hell is it with cats and basses?!?!?!) but I am scopin out a larger living space in which I will have a dedicated bass space

| | | | I've only got one bass and no partner to set limits.
It's quite lonely, having only one bass. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
