Does your opinion/taste have changed about music/gear/etc since you have joined Tb ???

For my part yes. I was a happy bass player who knows he didn't see the bass like everyone else, trying to more of a musician than a bass player.

Now I feel like I hate bass player to be always in the shadows of everyone else, so they unconsciously are a stereotype of the person who have a very easy part to play and make women dance.

Otherwise, no I still have the same gear I had before and I don't think it will change.

I have more gear than talent thanks to TB.

I've learned a few things since monitoring TB:

- I learned the floating thumb technique from Todd Johnson. I dont' think I'd have ever figured out the problems I was having with my RH technique otherwise.
- I figured out what I was doing to increase the damage to my left wrist from Fergie Fulton. I've been able to resume playing after learning what I was doing wrong there.
- There are one or two bass celebrities I'd never ever study with or have anything to do with after seeing their behavior here on TB.
- There are loads and loads of other fantastic players out there.
- I discovered Carvin.

Lots of negatives too, which is why I mostly monitor and try not to live on here. But those are some of the positives....

I've mellowed quite a bit since coming here believe it or not. I used to be very this is good music, this isn't, since I got here, and mostly painting with a genre wide brush, and I've since found good music in pretty much every genre, so I thank TB for that.

I've also been able to narrow down my Gas list, due to the multitude of reviews of effects and basses, and come to the conclusion that for what I want, there are only a few more things that I need, and that I can get rid of a lot of what I have and still make it all work.

I also learned how to slap here.

It's kind of like when I first started going to church many years ago. Going in, I thought I was a good person, and thought I knew a lot about the Bible. After a short time, I realized just how much I was missing and lacking, and how much there was to learn. Same thing with TB.

I'd say TB has helped me get over some of the idiot opinions I had when I first started off. There are some very talented folks on here and alot of good knowledge to be found (and some bad "knowledge", though that tends to be disproved). I've fixed at least 3 of my basses with the advice from the luthier section that would have otherwise been very costly had I taken them into a guitar shop.

I'd like to thank TB for getting me into progressive rock/metal and jazz (by recommended means of Tool, Yes, Esperanza Spalding and Jonas Hellborg). And a (dubious) thanks for producing the incurable GAS for a bi-amp set-up and an arsenal of Warwick and Wal basses. My tastes have become far more eclectic to say the least.

The review section is very helpful in that reviews tend to be a tad more objective than professional articles that have the bias of advertising income. (I owe my effects pedal and string choice to the reviews)

And I think it's made me a better band player - when I was learning I was of the opinion that using every technique I knew in any song situation was a good show of skill, now the prevalence of fantastic bassists showing their abilities does a good job of showing areas where I need to improve and lay-off the "musical wankery".

So...yeah. You're a bunch of good eggs really.
