Don Cornelius, Soul Train Creator, Is Dead

Don Cornelius, creator of the long-running television dance show Soul Train, shot himself to death Wednesday morning at his home, Los Angeles police said.

Don Cornelius, the producer and television host who created the television dance show “Soul Train,” was found shot dead in his Los Angeles home on Wednesday morning, and detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department were looking trying to determine if his death was a suicide.

A person at the producer’s house on Mulholland Drive in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood called the police and reported shots had been fired just before 4 a.m., a police spokesman, Chris No, said. When officers arrived, they were let into the house and found Mr. Cornelius lying lifeless on the floor. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was 75 years old.

“We don’t know if he committed suicide,” Mr. No said. “It’s still under investigation

He was a pioneer who showcased and produced quality entertainment that had a universal appeal and audience.

True shame the way it went down. I was living in Philadelphia in the early 70's and this show brought black and white kids together, he left his legacy. RIP.......

I heard this early this morning on my Tune-In app, very sad news. It was still unconfirmed at the time if he was dead or not, but there was much talk that he was having troubles with his ex and if this was seen as a suicide attempt that authorities should investigate as a possible attempted murder.

All that aside, the man was a legend and an increible human being. RIP Don...

Updated at 11:55 a.m. “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius was found dead in his Los Angeles home early Wednesday morning. He was pronounced dead after the Los Angeles Fire Department transferred him to a nearby hospital, Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department told The Washington Post. Cornelius was 75. The cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound said Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. RIP Don
