Don't take your girlfriend into a guitar store and play her every sappy love song you know expecting her and everyone at the store to be impressed. I've got a clown in my shop doing that RIGHT NOW! It's embarassing. He's a mediocre guitar player and a terrible singer. His girl doesn't look like she's enjoying herself. He keeps pulling these terrible songs out and looking at her like "How 'bout that one? Eh? Pretty great huh?"

"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOOOOOOOOEEEOR!"

Hey, as long as he gets laid, that's all that matters (to him anyway).

But from the sound of it, that ain't gonna happen as a result of this.

Agreed, and don't be that guy who goes in and turns up a Marshall stack all the way and does some talentless shredding.

So, in other words, don't be a guitar player.

Or don't be the guy who plugs a Warwank into an 8-10 and slaps Higher Ground. (Right Tim?)

I was in my local GC the other day, and this guy was just wanking fast notes for at least 45 minutes - through the Marshall stack and LOUD! No tone, no rhythm, no scales, no patterns, nothing remotely resembling music, just a bunch of random notes played as fast as humanly possible.

I actually felt sorry for the GC employees

Well, you've gotta play something when you're trying out new gear. It should be something you know really well so you can concentrate more on the sound than your own playing, and you've usually gotta play at a pretty good volume so you can get an idea of what the gear really sounds like.

But there's just no excuse for G 'n R in a music store. No excuse.

Don't be so sure that this guy wasn't a GC employee.

The last time I was in GC, the manager was trying to convince me that all the digital multitracks would have the same sound quality since they are all digital. I guess he forgot about the preamps, a/d converters, sampling rates, bit rates, digital processing and a whole slew of other stuff.

I think I get some sarcasm here.. but y'know, I really don't think I'd want to hear any interpretations of Dylan in Guitar Center either. It would probably just piss me off!

I've been playing a lot of Rush and Level 42 lately, lucky I don't go to guitar shops to pull!

I'm beginning to agree more and more with every one of Benjamin Strange's posts, and it's not just because he lives in New Orleans.

Are you kidding me? He is the best songwriter ever and he has always had something to say. Not the best singer in the world, but I think he deserves some well earned respect.
