I've never had any problems. I don't care how good a dog is, he cannot be trusted.
When any of our dogs are not supervised, they are in a kennel. Dogs are den animals, and if they are trained to use their kennels from puppyhood, they actually LOVE their kennels. I have one that will come and get you, to remind you no one has locked her door yet.
Sooner or later, a dog will do something you won't like. It's not because he's a bad dog; it's because dogs have different ideas than we do.
I have not had one chewed shoe, soiled carpet or torn anything in all these years.
So don't be afraid to have pets; just remember, a pet may be one of the family, but he's a member of the family who is NOT HUMAN, and has different ideas than you do.
You wouldn't chew a shoe.
Or would you?
I wouldn't.
Even if they made it out of steak.

Luckily, he doesn't get the chance that often, but when he does, he knows he wasn't supposed to do it. I think he's trying to play the Seinfeld theme or something!

I never implied that all pets are bad, any pet owners are wrong, or anything negative at all about the pets or the owners. I simply stated (quite simply or so I thought) that I don't UNDERSTAND the whole pet thing.

| | | My cats tend to leave my stuff alone, but one of them likes to use my Deluxe Electric Mistress pedal as a pillow when she sleeps, lol.
One of my bass cases still has white cat fur in it from, like, 20 years ago. Belonged to the guitarist's cat who liked to curl up and sleep in it while we practiced. That cat is long gone but her legacy lives on! (Ten years ago I was like, "ah, I really should clean that out one of these days..." but I don't have the heart to do it at this point. ) |

We used to fence off the family room and leave her in there while we were gone. One time she chewed a little leather tab off my shoe. After I "corrected" her for that, she has never chewed another thing. When we travel with her, we leave her loose in the room when we go to dinner. She claims the footstool and lays on that until we get back. At home, she now has the run of the whole house, upstairs and down. No problem. We trust her. Of course, you said "he," so maybe that's different.

The cat is really cool, he likes to lay on my bass case during practice. The dog is a rescue who must've been abused as she is very shy and skittish. She also has a habit of pissing and shi++ing all over the house at the slightest disturbance in her daily routine. He used to have a ferret which one day decided to eat a hole through the grill cloth and speaker cone of a nice Peavey synth amp he has in our practice room.

What are the chances?

I had to remove & wash (several times) every foam insert with pet odor removing soap, and scrub each pedal as well. I spent many long hours cleaning up that mess.
The reason God makes dogs & cats cute is so we won't kill them when stuff like this happens....

We have 2 cats who are awesome - one of them even fetches & sings. Dogs are sometimes like autistic toddlers, but once past puppyhood & if trained properly, they'll be your best friend. Wrap your cables with tin foil to discourage kitty chewing, & try 'Get Serious!' or 'UrineOff' for "accidents" around the house.
