The Doors keyboard sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
My band does 4 Doors songs. We recently acquired a keyboard player, but his keyboard sound for the Doors stuff isnt right. He uses a controller so he can get alot of tones. Anyone know the name of the keyboard the Doors used? I think its a Gibson, but what keyboard gives that distinctive sound?

Thanks!

It was definitely a transistr combo organ, I think that Ray Manzarek used both Vox and Farfisa at different times, and the bass parts were played on a Fender-Rhodes Piano Bass, that is, a 2.5 octave Rhodes with only low register. They did have session bassists play on some of their studio stuff though.

IIRC, the Fender Piano-Bass had the exact same range as the Fender bass...Low/Open E up to the high D#(20th fret).I was reading a Latin Music book & someone made a comment how Santana had a killer organ sound...unlike the sh***y organ sound like The Doors.
