Double Gig Bag Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I need a little help here. I've used two crappy double gig bags for the last couple years (a fender, and a gator) because I couldn't bring myself to drop so much money on a good one. I have now realized the error of my ways and am ready to throw down some cash. Can y'all suggest a good double gig bag, and maybe post a link to where I could buy one online. I really appreciate it.

I got a top of the line Ritter from a TBer a couple of years ago, & it is the best gig bag I've ever had. I also have a lower-levey Ritter single bag & it's much better than any other brand I've tried(Fender, Warwick, Roadrunner). They're not cheap, but IME way worth it. Don't know where to get them new, sorry(the single bag I bought new but the shop I got it from stopped selling them or something ).

Incase Bass Dub Bag

It gets really really heavy, but it's great quality and protection!

Whoops- THSL got in there first.

it's pricey, but the one my buddy has is pretty kick ass.

Lakland used to make a great double bag - can't find it anymore.

Last year I picked up one of the "Low End" Leather double bags.
Cons: Not Cheap, A little heavy.
Pros: Built like a tank. very thick padding. 2 entirely seperate zippered pockets to keep your instruments completely seperate which also makes it easier to take them out. Large saddle bag front pocket that holds alot. long pocket at the top for a strap. Looks SSWWWEEEETT!!!
I've also been using a Ritter single bag that I got at GC. I'm not sure if they make a double but if they do it should be fairly nice.

I appreciate everyone's help. It seems the general consensus is an incase double bag. My only problem with those is it seems a whole lot bulkier than any other "gig bag" I've seen. Anyone care to comment?

What were the problems with the Fender or the Gator that you're seeking to alleviate?

I've had a Mooradian double gig bag for 10 years or so now, and while it would never occur to me to call it a "crappy" bag there's nothing particularly fabulous about it...except for the fact that it's 10 years old and still as good as new. I've never had a problem with any aspect of its construction, and it only cost $150.

It's not my favorite gig bag, but I can't justify getting a "better" double gig bag because there's essentially nothing wrong with this one.

I had a Fender & it did NOT last.
My Ritter double is not bulky, though I couldn't find one online last night.

+100. I have had this bag for about 4+ years doing 85 shows a year. It is indeed heavy, but offers GREAT protection.

I never had a bass double gig bag, but I did for guitar. The Fender one was crap all around. I didn't trust it. The Ritter bag was one of the best gears I have ever purchased. I couldn't find one online either, I had to special order it from GC years ago because they are a Ritter dealer.

Definitely more case like than any other bag I've seen... great product, but more bulk than I'd ever want from a bag. My probag is real heavy leather and protection enough to stuff it with my Bee and Benavente. FYI: It's the same manufacturer as Gordon of Eden's bag. Mine has a zipper pocket instead of the buckle... as cool as the saddle look is, I didn't want big buckles ripping my car interior.

I didn't get the Dub bag for the same reason, along with the fact that there is only one zippered compartment, so you have to take out one bass to get to the other, and there isn't much separating them.

I have the LowEnd double bag as well (same as the Probag). I've got the saddlebag, and you can actually fit a whole Markbass Little Mark II amp in there As James said, it's fantastic protection- extremely thickly padded- your basses would probably stay perfectly safe if the bag tipped over and hit the floor. The downside is that it is heavy. Finding a good compromise between lightweight and superior protection seems like the most difficult issue when looking at double gig bags (there are a lot of other great options for single bags that aren't available in doubles).

Another Ritter user. The side pouches carry dang near everything I need. Kinda helped me ditch my rack drawer.

I have had 2 of these LowEnd bags and they are very rugged, but very heavy. Since I think that Brian isn't ordering them any longer, those ProBags that James mentioned are the best alternative.

As for the Ritter, I owned one of those double bags for about 6 weeks before selling it to Jorg. I really couldn't dig the bulky and floppiness of it. Felt like the basses were just floating around in there, even though it had neck retention velcro straps.

The Fender bag ($40) is pretty much like wrapping my basses in shirts and carrying them around. That is to say there is absolutely no padding.

The Gator bag ($85) has adequate padding, but only has one shoulder strap so one arm is constantly keeping it balanced. The one shoulder strap also tore away from the body a month after I bought the bag brand new. It has since been sewed back on by my costume designer friend twice and finally now is being held on by gaff tape.

I've got no problem dropping $150-$250 on a new bag that'll work well and last at least a few years. I use a double bag at least 3 times a week. I never leave the house with less than 2 basses, I had a bad experience.

go with the crowd on this one... Can't go wrong with the Incase dub bag. I have an older one and use it all the time... If you don't need an anvil case, this is a great bag. Get one

Martin Ritter got divorced and his wife got the company...that's what I hear anyway... No current US distribution for Ritter. LOVE my ritter double bag! Check out Levy's or if you hit the lottery, Reunion Blues. Mooradian is made VERY well but very simple. Maybe he's on to something there?
