double gig bags?

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I'm looking for a double gig bag. I'll be carrying my Roscoe lg 3500, and a soon to be delivered Lakland 55-94. I'm not looking to break the bank, but I definitely want something nice to protect my babies......any suggestions? Mods, feel free to move if necessary. Thanks.

I was considering getting this one. It looks quite nice and Fender's gig bags are made good.

I have a Pro Tec International. I've had it for several years, but can't remember where I got it. Nicely padded, extra pouches for odds and ends, and nice shoulder straps. The carry handles are sturdy, but could probably be a bit more padded. Protects both basses well.

I've looked at the incase dub bag ... but might not fit the requirement for not breaking the bank. I haven't bought one yet, but from what I've heard it sounds like they're fabulous.

Pro-Tec and Warwick. Both are nice bags and cost under $100.00 or so.

Oh, and there was a thread floating around last week about some nice marketed-not-made-in-USA double leather gig bags, too. Take a look in the Classifieds. Just prepare to wear the asbestos underwear, as it became inflammatory rather quickly.

I've been wondering about these too. Are they safe for both basses?

The incase is the ONLY one I trust anymore. I have 2 of them currently and HIGHLY recommend them! Good luck!

Peace,

I use an undercover gig bag. Bass Central has them for $215... not bad. LOTS of padding too, and a few big pockets. I'm not sure I couldn't manage to fit my LMII in there.

It seems you broke the bank on your basses, why not do it on the bag that protects them ?

Wouldn't 2 singles protect the instruments more than a double?
I know one gig bag would be easier to carry, but I sort of wonder about the two basses not kinda banging together...

Here's the one I use

The roller base is a great idea - you just trundle it around rather than having to lug it on your shoulder

I had the Ritter double bag which was a good gig bag but I just didn't like having 2 basses squashed together like that. And they are quite bulky I think. 2 single gig bags will take up hardly any more room, and are easier to carry IMO. And if you only need to carry 1 bass you're sorted.

I ordered a Reunion Blues double in brown leather about a decade ago. A great case that has held up beautifully but is heavy and can be expensive. The one I use now is a Mooradian. It's a good bag for two basses with normal thickness and standard length. I have no troubles fitting two downsized J-bodied Sadowskys in it but I did run into problems trying to fit one Sadowsky and my Fodera 6 which has an angled headstock and a thick, wide body. Perhaps it hasn't been stretched enough yet but I was getting worried about gouging through the partition and there being lots of pressure at the bottom of the case and at the top.

Neither configuration worked very well with the headstocks being different. Either way the Fodera was either pushing into the Sadowsky or pushing hard against the back of the case. So the Mooradian double is out if I need to take a Sad and one of my sixers and I just use two separate singles or sometimes the leather double, if I'm traveling by car.

One of my close friends has both the single and double Incase bags. He got them pretty early on and has always raved about them. He used the double case in Europe on tour for a few months and had good things to say. The zipper eventually failed once he was back in the States but they replaced it for free. IIRC, there was a period where they were restructuring or something and stopped taking orders. Then a few months later, resumed production and introduced the double case. I haven't had the scratch to invest in one but they look very nice. However, I do prefer the frame-less and super-light weight of the Mooradian single, which is the one I use the most. It makes carrying my Sad 24-5 P/J something to look forward to.

I have an Undercover single that came with the Fodera and it's pretty nice. Very big main compartment that is totally capable of holding a small head like one poster mentioned. However the strap system sucks. It tends to bunch up at the bottom, at the top and of course, where the plastic rubber sleeve is as well. Over time, the strap becomes quite thin and makes carrying a heavy bass like my Fodera an uncomfortable experience. Every time, it breaks blood vessels in my shoulder and leaves a mark for days. The Mooradian is much better in this regard. And the DUB's have that thicker backpack type of strap which is great.

Lots of good bags out there now.

I picked up a Levy's double gig bag this month. It is leather and nylon, and it is a big improvement over the last gig bag I got. I got it at a discounted price, $125, instead of $149. I feel this bag will last a few years at least.

No, the way these are design they have a thick pad that seperates the two basses. They do not touch at all.

I have a Undercover dub that I really like.

Except for the straps, Roscoe's double bag is the Same as an Undercover but has Roscoe on the front pouch.

Steve - Ive been thinking about getting one of these as well. Let us know what you think of it. I have yet to find a double bag (Have yet to try the incase Dub) that I like and like the leather look. A fellow TBer I met last year, tipped me off to these bags and they are less expensive than similar ones I have considered.
