DREAM BAND/GIG THREAD

Sign in to disble this ad
Now heres the scenerio, you've been called by your favorite A & R guy to put together a tour, You get to pick all the members, your holding down the low end. No budget restraints, record company is behind you 110%, and MTV's gonna put you in heavy rotation. You get to pick the style of music. Mine would be old school R & B with a little bit of jazz. What would your band look like? Don't choose an existing group, be creative!
Here's My "Dream tour" band:
BASS: ME
DRUMS: Dennis Chambers
KEY'S and BACKGROUND VOCALS: Michael McDonald ( good on keys but does anyone remember his backup work with the Dan?)
GUTIAR: Robben Ford (I figure he can hang with the jazz cats and has a great R & B feel)
SAX: Joshua Redman
TRUMPET: Roy Hargrove
TROMBONE: James Pankow (wrote great horn parts, early Chicago)
LEAD VOCALS: Joss Stone ( She can sing and I can't think of a better place to stand then behind her on stage!)

That would be truely cool.

Of course, something that caliber, I'd have zero chance of being anywhere near those guys. I'd stink up the place so bad, small children would cry in their homes in a 4.3 mile radius from the epicenter of suck.

Alexi and Jannes dual lead bits are really cool live. Jannes is hilariously apathetic about playing, he just knocks back beers and sorta spaces out. It's great.

Boy are you dreamin' !!!

But, I'm thinking, "Deep Purple". Ian Paice on drums, Jon Lord on the keys, Ian Gillan on vocals, and someone other than Richie Blackmore on the guitar. Someone who doesn't feel the need to take twenty minute guitar solos.

My other dream band is a killer fusion band, consisting of Alan Holdsworth on guitar, David Sancious on keys, Billy Cobham on the kit, and an Ian Gillan equivalent on the mic. If all those personalities could somehow mesh, that would be a killer band.

John Medeski: organ
Future Man: Future Man
Adam Dietch: drums

The Simpson sisters on backing vocals.

I dunno. Instead of all these huge names, I'd rather tap a bunch of my friends to do some huge tour. I mean, all these guys, they get to do it all the time. How often would I get the chance to hit the road with 3-5 of my best friends and rock the hell out?

I'd let the famous people stick to their bands, and have my friends at an offer like that.

People I'd love to play with if I could:

Guitar: Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Zappa, Ritchie Blackmore, Ron Thal (This guy is AWESOME, not only as a guitarist. His whole musicianship is astounding. I can't recall when was the last time I was that impressed with a "new" musician).

Drums: Neil Peart, John Bonham.

Vocals: Adrian Belew (very underrated as a singer IMO), Robert Plant, vintage Ian Gillan.

Those guys could all run circles around me. Seeing Bodom live was amazing. Alexi and Jannes were great. He doesn't even pay attention to his playing but its spot on.
