I was visiting a church recently and took a pic of their solution to tame their percussionist. Kinda nice looking. Sorry for the quality of my cell phone pic.

Not true, most churches that I have been to are very well designed acoustically. With drums being as loud as they naturally are, it is very hard to mix (been there, done that. Many times). The easiest solution is what was posted above. Mic the drums and run them through the system and it is still loud enough for stage use, so no need to run them through the monitors. You could also move to an electric kit, but I hate playing with a drummer on an electric kit. All in all, it is a win-win situation.

Not when your church is a big honkin' warehouse, they're not. We've got plexi, but it's to control stage volume.

We have a smaller sanctuary that was actually built for the purpose. It's amazing, acoustically, but the drums still need miking to compete with the rest of the band's stage volume.

Not all churches like their worship at polite volume levels.

Ha! That's the same thing I was thinking.

If the drummer has a bad gig, you can just fill the thing up with water and let people gawk at him.

Looks like one of those dunking booths at the fair. All we're missing is the target for the baseball.

Dunk the Drummer, Save a Soul. Three shots for a buck. Step right up to the altar folks.

God Bless, Ray

Did someone poke holes in the top so the drummer can breathe?

My church went with one of the Roland digi drum sets. Actually sounds pretty good, plus it's all under the control of the mixing board.

I refer to the one at my church as a terrarium. All he needs is a few plants, and maybe a snail or 2 to keep the algae off of the glass.
