DR-770 is Discontinued and replaced with the DR-880, 670 is based on the 770 and added Touch sensitivity and Foot switch inputs and some more.

I got the Boss 670 for a steal off eBay. It's got a bit of a steep learning curve, but there are a couple of good videos on YouTube that show you the basics.

Initially, I was looking at the Alesis SR-16, until I heard some sound samples. The drums sound awful, IMHO. They sound very 80's like with lots of reverb. If that doesn't bother you, the Alesis is a good buy, but for the money the 670 is world's better.

Check out some sound samples before you buy. Drop me a line if you want.

Any Boss DR (that's progammable)

Sequential Tom (if you can find a deal on one)

Soft Synth VSTs are a bit more useful
