Drunken Brawling..

Sign in to disble this ad
so we had a brawl at the gig friday night.... 25 or so invloved. people were confused who to hit!!! it wasn't cool though. we have had instances with fans fighting at shows before, but there has been little as far as us feeling the wrath from club owners. i don't like the fighting, but it only happens locally, ususally our friends and some semester-locals getting angry. what do you guys do do discourage this??

My girlfriend was singing and got a bloody lip when a fight started on the dance floor and she got nailed with the mike!

Only got involved in one brawl ever, but they were fighting the owner and all my friends and neighbours too.
The one that started it needed a new face after my buddy found out he'd messed with his wife but most of us were fine.

Anyway, I usually keep playing and doing what the band is there to do.

Hang out with a better class of friends. If you bring friends with you, that get into fights with locals, you'll soon find yourself playing only in garages.

I hadn't caught the part of his post mentioning the bands friends being some of the main parties to the fights.

Anyways, what cheezwiz said sounds like good advice to me.

We usually stop right in the middle of the song, and instantly break right into "eye of the tiger". It's even better if you do it right before the fight even starts.

Depends where you gig. Where I book gigs there is always security and these guys don't mess around. In other words you'd be better to take it outside than scrap around them!

Like some said in a previous post....stop playing and then break into something obscure. At the very least it will confuse the scrappers......

Play better parts of town. We never made it to Dirk's but we did Diamond Jim's down in Chula Sidro, and it was pretty scary. Didn't you guys play up at Molly Malone's in Ramona? That's another one of my least favorites.

i hear that, but it usually only happens here in town, and it's always with frat kooks (not that ALL frat guys are kooks) against locals. San Diego attracts all kinds of lunkheads, and sometimes it's just too much for us stuck here....

I haven't had that problem for about 20 years because I'm pretty choosy where we play. A couple years ago a new club opened and we played the first weekend. Friday night one of the "customers" was starting to get offensive towards others and management tossed him immediately. It took a few weeks but they set a standard for appropriate behavior and there have been no problems since whereever we played there.

Back in college days, we used to play Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting and a fight broke out three weeks in a row during that song. It was amazing. We didn't play it the next week at the bar owner's request. Then played it again the week after, and you know it... another fight. This was in a nice preppy neighborhood where the school was. The dance floor was usually packed too, so you'd see a group of people go down like dominos. Funny, because no one really ever got hurt badly.

I haven't played to a fight since, and that was about 18- 19 years ago. Those days were fun.
