Didn't quite know where to put this, so it goes here (in misc.)...
As some of you on here are aware I had posted about my bass' tone, and started thinking about EQing, etc, to cut through distorted guitars. Then I suddenly thought of the strangest thing. How about cutting under the distorted guitars. Think about 2 guitarists, 1 that has a high hi-mid(in bass player terms) low treble tone, and another that has the opposite (high treb, low hi-mids). Now, if both also lowered their bass/low-mids, would it make sense that a dub tone would be a perfect match???

So the real question is: would "dub" metal be viable??? |

The bass is trying to fit in under the guitars, and tries to stay on top of the drums...i don't think it'd work because with all the dub bass going on, you'd get caught with the metal drumming and metal guitar riffing, the dub bass would just turn everything muddy imo |

Think "Type O Negative" - right up your alley, Darky!
For thrash metal, ala Pantera, or edgy metal, ala Megadeth? No, I think not...

Acoustically, it would probably mesh fine, but you know how sound guys tend to turn the kick drum into a punch in the gut.

So the real question is: would "dub" metal be viable??? | There are a few bands that play a dub/metal hybrid. The first one that comes to mind is the now defunct Makka Sleuth from Ithaca NY. But there are others too.

True. They do usually separate their roots from their hardcore, though. If you like BB, check out the band Charge. They do rasta HC too...but mix it up in the songs.
