The Dude Pit......glitch???

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry if this should be in "Off Topic".

After having some initial delay in being able to sign-on to the new Dude Pit (about two weeks ago) for the first time, I have had a stange occurance with it over the last week.

Over the last several days, 3 of the last 5 times I've tried to sign on my computer locks up (or slows to a practically non-existant crawl). I hit the Dude Pit link in my favorites list, the Dude Pit page appears, and then .

Nothing can clear the computer. I can't even shut the computer down without pulling the power plug, then re-booting.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

I'd ask over there but I'm afraid to attempt another log on.

Only problem I'm having with the Dudepit is figuring out how to navigate it now.

After the main page appears you go up and click "Dude Pit Forums". It's pretty easy from there (assuming my computer doesn't lock ).

Just ANOTHER reason not to go to the 'Pit and to stay on TB!

That problem is on your end of it. No similar problems have been reported.

It may be. I just can't figure out why it's only your site and only one computer (hasn't happened on my wireless laptop).

EDIT: My laptop's browser shut itself down when the Dude Pit page came up tonight. Restarted and worked on the second try. Weird!

Same problems here. Happened at home and at the office so, it's not the computer.

Ah-HA!!!
So it's not just me.
Better get it checked.

BTW, although the new site software is nice eye candy, it's really a pain in the a$$ to navigate. Not nice and easy like.....TalkBass!

I had this pop up and lock my PC yesterday.
Today I went back and "took a picture" with the Print Screen function:

Sir, you are not alone in obtaining that result.
And it should be noted, no other site has this anomaly.

Perhaps there is some reasonable explanation for a Red Alert to only occur at one site.

Well, well well.....
The plot thickens.
Dude, feel free to jump in anytime and help clear this up.
(PS. D.P. V3 was so much better. Any chance we can fix this mistake?)

Ask Bill Gates:

Critical Update for Microsoft Data Access Components - Disable ADODB.Stream object from Internet Explorer (KB870669) 07/02/2004 11:25 AM Adodb.stream provides a method for reading and writing files on a hard drive. This by-design functionality is sometimes used by web applications. However, when combined with known security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer, it could allow an internet web site to execute script from the Local Machine Zone (LMZ). This occurs because the ADODB.Stream object allows access to the hard drive when hosted within Internet Explorer. Critical Update for Microsoft Data Access Components - Disable ADODB.Stream object from Internet Explorer - Win9x (KB870669)
Dude (1/22/2008 11:49:09 AM): yes
john miller (1/22/2008 11:49:13 AM): tell them that its not directly related to the website as much as it is a security flaw in IE, and there have been updates for that flaw since 2004, which is 4 years ago, and that they should try to use Mozilla Firefox as the browser, and this would not occur. MSIE is full of security holes and breaches, and is insecure on any site. There is nothing damaging or threatening on the website, this is a security flaw that could be utilized and that if they update their OS and IE, then the issue would go away
john miller (1/22/2008 11:49:23 AM): other than that, dont use IE
john miller (1/22/2008 11:49:26 AM): use firefox
john miller (1/22/2008 11:49:30 AM): much better browser

Yes, and the reply worked! My browser told me it gave up, but I can see know that my reply is there. And my post count is now 1. So I don't know what happened.

Both my laptop at home, and workstation in the office went bluescreen the past two times I tried to go there. I'll look here for news of a resolution. Until then, I have to stay off.
