In Ear Monitor question?

Sign in to disble this ad
Are In-Ear-Monitors systems proprietory? Meaning, can you inter-brand? Can you use a Sennheiser receiver with a Shure transmitter? Or a Nady receiver with a Shure Transmitter? Reason I asked is I thought I could save some money by buying just a receiver (Nady PEM-500) and use it with my bands Shure transmitter. It has selectable channels but I couldn't receive a signal! Sucks!

I don't know personally but I wouldn't think so. But just to be helpful I looked up some info on this......

Below is all for North America, hope that is applicable to you.
This might help in your search:
Nady PEM-500: 696-865 MHz
Sure PSM200: 515-865 MHz (not sure if this is what you use, its the mid-range sure transmitter/monitor setup)

Sure Transmitter (PSM200 Transmixer Box):
Ch 1: 518.750
Ch 2: 524.875
Ch 3: 525.625
Ch 4: 534.375
Ch 5: 536.875
Ch 6: 538.500
Ch 7: 551.000
Ch 8: 553.250

source: Pg14 from http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbas...n/m_270302.pdf

You could pull up the info on the Nady unit to see if the channels matched up with a corresponding frequency on the transmitter. Again what I posted is for the unit I have, which is their PSM200 Wireless setup with the "transmixer" box. These numbers might not reflect the equipment you have and are only accurate for North America.

Hope this helps.
David.

That helps a lot! Thanks. And yes, they have the Shure PSM200 model. Looks like they don't operate on the same pre-set frequency. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy the transmitter! Gah!

No problem, btw I love my Shure wireless monitor, even with a really nice and loud rig it helps with the clarity a lot. Plus with the shure unit you can use it as a personal headphone amp without the wireless as it has a 1/4" input on the side of the little unit. Great unit overall though, works well. Plus it comes with the shure earbuds that are really nice.
