Start with Metallica and Iron Maiden. They should be in natural or a half step down. The newer bands play in such low tunings that it may confuse you. Good Luck

try some Motorhead stuff, most of the tracks of theirs that we play (Bomber, Killed By Death, No Class etc) have a very simple structure and are quick to learn

Omerta is an easy song that should sort out you picking/fingering. +1 to opeth, some opeth songs will be impossible due to timings, but others are simple but awesome lines, like "The grand Conjouration"

ps my spelling could be off, ive been drinking

Agree with everything said here.
Also Megadeath, Sepultura, Pantera. All good stright forward metal bass. Once you've masterd Opeth start on Dream Theater.

These bands in this order should push your playing skills nicely.

Some old school white zombie is fairly easy, I started out with thunder kiss 65, black sunshine and soulcrusher. still can't play soul crusher up to speed with the recording though.

Something from Ellefson (Megadeth). Mostly just roots and octaves. Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells, etc.

Judas Priest!

Really easy: Breaking The Law, Living After Midnight, Green Manalishi
A little harder: Tyrant, Victim of Changes, Sinner, Electric Eye
