Easy songs to learn for acoustic guitar

Sign in to disble this ad
For the last 6 months I've been working on learning acoustic guitar, and I'm still kinda stumped on what songs to play (for say, a coffee lounge set), aside from my noodling, which I do like to do, but I gotta get serious. Any recommendations?

What I do is listen to an oldies station that plays the era I'm interested in and keep a notepad handy to write down the names of songs I think I might like to play. Then I look up the chords at chordie.com

IMHO Paul Simon is the master of acoustic guitar.

April Come She Will is an easy and fairly kickass song.

The Boxer is well known and none to hard as well.

Neil Young has some tasty stuff as well.

The songs you will like singing. If it is just you and your guitar your guitar will provide the harmony and your voice will provide the melody. Sure after singing two verses and the chorus you may give yourself an instrumental solo, but you will be singing. So what type of songs can you sing?

Chordie.com is a good site, roughstock.com for country or just google -- guitar chords, "name of the song" and see what comes up. Here is a site for oldies http://www.theguitarguy.com/songs.htm

I'm country and purchased The Ultimate Country Fake Book - over 700 songs. There will be books for your style of music.

Have fun.
