Ebay-customs question (Europe)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello
I am in Greece and I recently ordered a Schroeder from the USA. It came through FedEx, declared value $200. It recently arrived and I was asked to pay 245 euro (more than $270) for taxes, insurance, blah blah blah.

Now I want to buy something off Ebay, which I've never used before. The seller is in Korea and says:
"Shipping fee is $30 and it will be sent to you through EMS. (Express mailing system, include insurance)"

This will cost me more than $300 to buy, so if this insurance thing/posting method means I'll pay again for taxes here then it's certainly not affordable.
Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Yep. Don't use carriers. If you're buying from USA, use USPS Global Air Parcel, it takes 2 weeks, but NO taxes whatsoever if you declare a low value (at least in France). Using UPS or FedeX I've always paid more taxes than the price of the product I was buying, no matter the declared price. I dont know if it works that way for Greeks, but its worth a shot.
