eBay dispute -should I bother?

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a Boss pedal off the 'Bay and found the footswitch is a bit dickey. I'm sorta thinking it's not worth the hassle, except the guy gouged me on shipping (charged 15 bucks; actual postal cost was $5.60).

I'm just looking for some guidance as I don't want to invest a buncha time and stress for a relatively small amount.

Anyone who's gone through this - what do you actually get back? Do you get shipping refunded as well as the item cost? Or do you just get the amount of the auction?

I'm also thinking nasty thoughts if he has to refund the whole amount plus pay return shipping I'll charge him what he charged me for shipping...

You knew the shipping amount when you bought it?

If so, I would just shoot some cleaner in the switch then not bother about the shipping.

Was it shipped from outside Oz? If so, you're probably better off just spraying some contact cleaner in there and calling it a day. If the seller is relatively local to you, then maybe I'd think about sending it back.

Ebay disputes can go in your favor, but only if the item is "significantly not as described" (or doesn't arrive at all). If the auction description said something vague like "works great" then you might not be able to call it "significantly not as described". OTOH if he said "works like new, no issues at all", then you'd have a leg to stand on.

e bay is rife with auctions that feature a low bin price and a big ol' shipping charge.....the hope is that you pull the trigger before you look.....the cost of sending it back will probably exceed the repair cost......wait till the last minute and leave the guy bad fb.....

Did you contact the seller yet?
Did the auction specify "buyer pays return shipping"?
