Roman Guitars Closing
(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.
“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”
According to Roman, his potential new store would also open in the Las Vegas area.

If karma were a working concept, Ed would have been eaten by African Hunting Dogs in the late 80s.

Still.

I remember the first time I visited his website. It was cool to browse the online inventory. Then, I stumbled across the pages laden with his opinions about business and manufacturing practices by guitar and bass makers. After that, there was abso;utely no way I was going to buy anything from him, ever.

If I were him, I would not worry about getting his name back.

I've never heard all the stories about how he is supposed to be so evil. Sure he is oppinionated, but I like the fact how he slams Gibson, they deserve it.

What has he done to make him so hated?

Produced a lot of guitars from parts and sold them as factory items for one thing.

What is the source of this story? The url listed above is bogus. I think the story, although amusing, is wishful thinking.

Check your source.

Ed is a colorful character with some interesting ideas. He has tons of enemies, I mean people that really hate him. People hate him because he is an arrogant ranter. Thinks his opinion is the only one that holds any worth.

I think the story about him closing is a fairy tale however. Got better info than an non working url?

He had an interesting inventory, but his prices were sky high and there was no guarantee that you weren't buying something that was a genuine guitar or bass that wasn't assembled from parts.

He had some good theories and ideas about woods and construction, but that was about it.

He was an ass to deal with. Given his questionable reputation and price, I wasn't gonna hand him money. He and his goons tried to screw me over once. That was enough. Sadly, I know some guys who weren't as fortunate.

It sounds like he is simply getting rid of the property and will probably reopen in a smaller store with cheaper overhead.

Maybe if someone covers Vegas in boric acid, the cockroach will die.

If I wasn't afraid of being branded a terrorist and sent to Gitmo, I'd start a boric acid collection.
