Effect Interconnect Cables - RJx?

I'd like to build my own sturdy interconnect cables using coax cable. If plausible, I'd like to get bulk wire at my local home improvement center to save time.
Would any of the commonly available bulk coax be suitable?

Yes, I've done that many times. Also you can get bulk rolls of coax from places that sell supplies to cable installers. The only tricky part is getting the right diameter of cable (including the insulation) to fit your plugs (George L's or whatever).
