Electronic Drums and Triggers?

Yes I know, wrong forum. I don't even know where to begin to find a good drum forum, though.

So I just received my Mandala Pad by Synesthesia Corp. I've never played drums before, but I figure I might as well since all the good drummers in my area are taken and it will probably help my bass playing.

So now the GAS has set in and I've decided I need a full electronic set. I like the look of the new Alesis USB Pro set, does anybody have any experience with these? Mainly I'm wondering about latency, durability, and expandability.

The other thing I was wondering is, since my PA doesn't have subs (yet), how well do those dDrum Triggers work? I was thinking about using a real bass drum with a trigger on it instead of an electronic pad, just to get that real thump that only an acoustic drum can provide. Anybody have any experience? Yet again, latency, accuracy, and durability are my main concerns.

Thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

The dDrum triggers work alright. The new Alesis kit looks slick for the price. What interest me are their new cymbal triggers as they are actually brass cymbal coated so they don't make noise but still swing and react like a real one. That makes a difference especially the hihat one. Most of the kits in that price range just have the rubber pads which are alright but can be hard to get a good bounce and groove going.

If you know which kit you are looking at there are a few forums specific to the kits but I still have not found a good over kit. Harmony Central is an alright place for info.

I am like you are bass player that started playing a digital kit because of flakey drummers at Church.
