Electronic or "V-drums"

I am just a gear whore who loves to give his visa a good workout. I am not a drummer and can only play basic stuff, I am most definately a bassist, BUT, I want electronic drums. Currently I have some Birch Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Nouveaus, but I can't play them at night time or at low volumes, so I am looking into getting some electronic ones too for the jam room. I see Yamaha and Roland as the companies best to work with so far, but I really don't know what I'm looking for.

Things I would like...

-Chokeable cymbals
-Mesh heads? I hear they feel a lot better, but are usually on kits that are above what I'd like to spend. Maybe just a mesh snare.
-Able to do rimshots on the snare would be nice.
-A really good brain with lots of pre programmed stuff.
-Maybe the ability to put my own samples into it?
-I'd like to be able to keep it under a grand used for this.

Any knowledge?

I have moved away from the e-drums myself just due to already having too many goldang things to spend my time and money on, however: in the the time I was buying and trying e-drums, I found the mesh heads were definitely worth it for the snare, as well as any tom/misc triggers I would be doing fast rolls on, and the kick drum too! Even though you'd think the kick would be the least important trigger, I found that using the rubber-pad kick triggers resulted in a lot of false triggers as it rebounded repeatedly. So at a minimum get the mesh for the snare and kick. I used the Roland ones and liked them pretty well. As far as which brains and cymbal pads to get, I found the guys at Drumbalaya.com were very helpful and willing to answer a lot of questions before I had even placed an order. And they actually rate all of their kits on how "noisy" they are acoustically.
