On that note, there are many, but the one that does it for me is "Grow Old with Me" by John Lennon. The sound is very 'rough draft' and distant but it always chokes me up thinking...what could have been had he lived?

I can't sing this or listen to it without crying.
Get your kleenex out.

There's so many, Dying to Live by Edgar
Winter, Hands in Wood by New Tradition,
Heck, there's even something, and I can't
Explain it, about the chord progression. In
The bridge of Lie to Me that's always been
Extra special to me. Now that's strange I know...

Not necessarily bawls but the line from 'Eclipse' on Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd always gives me chills no matter what when I hear it:

And all that is under the sun is in tune but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

And since becoming a father 3 years ago 'Tears in heaven' by Eric Clapton chokes me up.

Fleetwood Mac's "Dust" has had me in tears on more than one occasion.

Most of the Les Mis sound track, and "God Only Knows". It was almost my wedding song, but I knew I could not get through it.

When a friend of ours put a gun in his mouth, I couldn't make it through "American Pie" without totally losing it.

We all have our own Day the Music Died.

That totally sucked.

Has anyone else watched Rugrats in Paris? I heard Sinead sing "When You Love" during that movie and everytime my kids play the DVD I well up immediately when that track begins.

There's TONS of songs that really get me. Anything that's really well done with great musicianship will get to me even if it's not really a 'sad' song. Here's some of the worst offenders:

Adagio for Strings whenever it's done really well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVgxZVvyWYI

It makes me a blubbering fool.

Eric Satie's Gymnopedie 1 gets me, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MxLrqab5NU

Lastly, Bonnie Raitt's Louise kills it for me.

What gets me is watching Dhani...I want to weep for his loss.
FTW!

Laugh if ya want, but Adelle's Rolling in the Deep really hits a nerve with me. Some kind of synergy in the lyrics, melody, and changes, I guess.

Same kind of synergy, but Chic's Good Times puts me in more of a blue-but-hopeful place.

Rush- The Pass
Rush's acoustic version of Resist
Bon Iver- Holocene
Akron/Family- You're Already Dead
David Gilmour- Smile
Depending on how I feel, sometimes the acoustic part during "To Live is to Die" by Metallica.
Anything by most Post-Rock bands (Ex. Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky)
