Engineering/Technician Positions at Pro Audio Firms

Sign in to disble this ad
This thread is for those who enjoy signal analysis and the technical makings of pro audio electronics.

As implied by my username, I'm an Electrical Engineering student and will be graduating in May
I've applied for lots of positions in manufacturing control and power - interviews usually left me bored and asking "When will this be over?"

I'm very interested in pursuing a career in pro audio and have compiled a list of about 15 companies that accept online applications (as that seems to be the only way to submit resumes these days ).

I'm positive I've missed many companies - so if anyone can contribute to my list - that'd be great!

Also, if you're involved in a technical position at one of these companies - what do you do on a daily basis?

Congrats on your upcoming graduation.
I got interested in audio as a young teen.
Today, I am an audio tech for one of the largest staging
companies in the country.
But long before I got that job, I put in many years of dues in the industry as a tech support worker, and even some years in retail selling pro audio gear. It helps to know as much about many types of audio gear for live, studio, television, radio and digital uses as possible.

If you decide ultimately to try to work for a particular company or equipment manufacturer, do try to contact them directly. Do your homework, and learn about their history as much as possible before you apply. I suggest to contact them directly because I've read some thoughts from HR directors about people who use board posting services, and that they don't know anything about the company they're applying for.

Even though using the web is the preferred way to apply for work with these companies and manufacturers, use all the resources you have available to communicate with them.
Have rock solid paper resumes and cover letters available to send at a moment's notice. Be very well mannered when using the telephone. And above all, be patient, because landing the job you want may take some time.

I wish you the best of luck in your search. Go get 'em!

Thanks for the input.

I wasn't gunning for a top position. I do need something with a health insurance plan - but I was considering gunning for a full-time repair techinician position more than a salaried situation. I'm a little worried that companies will raise an eyebrow when they see my degree and wonder why I'm applying for a job I am way overqualified for.
