Epiphone Thunderbird Case

Does it need a special type of case or can it wrk with the Epiphone Firebird case?

Yes and no respectively.

There's actually a rather limited selection of cases that the T-Bird will fit in, the Epi case being the best/cheapest AFAIK.

If You're handy, manufacturing a DIY case is always an option. Won't probably save You any money though.

it won't work with the firebird case. at all. the thunderbird case is supposedly quite good quality, but it's obscenely big and heavy. but it is cheap. take the size and weight into consideration: you don't want to be carrying that and an ampeg SVT.
