I don't see why somebody wouldn't EQ. I tend to find I get a better tone with some different EQing.

EQ is necessary but not in order to alter your instrument's tone significantly, but to adapt to each room's sound. Recently I found that I run my SR5 ->RBI->COMP->EQ->POWAMP with everithing almost flat. If you like your instrument's tone you definitely don't have to do extreme EQing. Anyway, despite I seldom use it, my rig will never leave home without the EQ section.

If you care what your tone sounds like, you will need to eq for different rooms. I always tweak my eq.

Unhappy

I've got a Treble knob, a Bass knob, and a "Deep" switch on my amp and my basses are all passive. I use the EQ such as it is. There is no "flat", it's 1-10 and on.off.

Edit - I don't know why I put the frowning face on the post... I love the sound of my old blackface Bassman with a modern Eden 210 cabinet!

EQ? We don't need no steeenking EQ!

i don't like to tweak too much , basically, just set it and forget it ...

my bass and amp are a good match , i know what kind of sound
i like , so it's easy to get a good stage sound .

front of house is another story ...
i usually send a wet signal to the board and ask the soundguy to run
his board dry ...

I pretty much eq to the room and then leave it set...

I usually get my tone fairly easily with a few adjustments, but I tend not to fiddle with eq during the set.

Um, yeah, I assume you're talking about any tone adjustment. Lately my amp has been less colored than in the past, but I still make adjustments to my eq to keep 'my' sound under control for each playing setting.
