Equipment and the elements?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a gig coming up next week that will be played outside in the sun. It will be hot (about 107 degrees) and I am not sure if my equipment will be ok. Are there any precaoutions that I should take so that my bass/rig doesn't get damaged by the sun/heat. I will be using my Zon Sonus custom along with my Eden 6x10 cab.

Your amp will be at greatest risk of overheating. If it's the PLX, it may be OK. The rest of your gear should be OK if you keep it in the shade.

Whatever your amp is, it wouldn't hurt to have a big fan blowing on it.

I will be using my Eden navigator with my PLX amp. The amp will be bridged.

I've gigged in 105 degree, humid weather and had no problem with my PA's PLX power amps. I put them in the shade and they were fine. My WT-800 did fine, although its fan was on much of the time.

What about your instrument? Should I let my bass warm up gradually in its case?

I'd avoid sudden changes. Most of us in AZ find that living in air-conditioned bliss is the best way to survive and ,of course, we keep out instruments with us in air-conditioned bliss. If your bass is at 76 degrees and you pop the case open in 105 degree weather chances are that nothing will happen that can't be fixed by tuning it but if the transition can be somewhat more gradual that would be good. Just a few minutes outside should do the trick.

I'd be more concerned with keeping myself out of the direct sun and keeping my gear close by, with me in the shade.
