First I have to say I say Clapton a few days ago and it was really great, especially Willie Weeks on bass and Chris Stainton on piano. But I was under the impression Derek Trucks was playing guitar along with Eric and Doyle Bramhall.
Not that Doyle and Eric were anywhere near bad, but why wasn't Derek there? Anyone know?

Not to dis Derek Trucks, but even without him on stage Clapton had a KILLER band backing him. Not a weak link to be found.

I saw him in about '88 or '89 with East on bass, Greg Phillinganes (sp?) on keys, Mark Knopfler as second guitar, and I don't remember who was on drums. But it was a great show. And to fuel those ancient 'Clapton is God' folks: When he sang 'Let it Rain', it did, hard for about ten minutes and then no more..
And Nathan sang "Can't Find My Way Home' in a fine clear very very high voice.

Willie Weeks' bass solo was the highlight for me.
Yeah, I actually think Derek's a better guitarist than Eric nowadays, luckily he's coming to town as a main act soon.

He used to be in the Letterman band back in the early days on NBC before Anton took over on drums. He's played with everyone from Keith Richards to Sheryl Crow to John Scofield. Most recently he played in the John Mayer Trio with Pino Palladino on bass. That's one of the heaviest rhythm sections I've ever seen live. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
