Ever been jealous of someone else?

I've sometimes seen people use various instruments/amplifiers/effects that are pretty good. The trouble with some of them is that they could be a one-off, discontinued, or just really expensive. Sometimes I've seen some of those, and I was like "Man...that guy's a lucky bastard." Most of the time, however, I try to find the next best thing. I don't have to worry about a product being discontinued if it's on the official site. And I can check catalogues to check on prices. They can vary from store to store (for example, a StingRay from Billy Hyde Music can be close to $3,000, while a StingRay from Allans Music can be around $2,600).

But seriously, has anyone else experienced jealousy for other players' equipment?

Not really. I mean, sure there have been times where I have been like wow, I wish I had that person's bass or amp, but most of the time I'm more interested with what the person actually does with their nice gear.

I'm jealous when they don't use it to its full potential...like a teenager playing punk on a 65 watt, humongous combo amp that could be heard several blocks away. Punk isn't good enough for that amp...powerchords d*mn what a waste. Metal or jazz or the blues...I could see that happenin a bit easier, but I don't really listen to metal so...yea.

Meanwhile I'm stuck playin everythin on a 10", 10 watt, korean brand of some kind w/ adaptor to american plugs practice amp.

Yeah I don't really get that jealous of the gear people run...if I REALLY want something I have gear to sell of etc...

But people who play better make me jealous for sure!!

offcourse you can be jealous...

But!

If they make like a biljion dollars a year, you could never compete with them in gear. So don't worry bout that too much. Theres nothing you can do about it.

Now if youre working only in the vacations (like me) you should save up some money to buy decent gear. (ive been playing for 2.5 years on a €170 bass that isnt the best one out there, but was never jealous) in a few weeks im going to get my Dean edgehammer v! which is totally going to own

O,... another thing... if you COULD buy anything you want... you might get "bored" or something, I find it is best to have the desire to get better equip and grow along in techique along the proces. It's much more fun imho.

Like a dutch saying:

"het hebben van de zaak, is het einde van't vermaak"
which means something like
"when you got all the stuff you want/need, youre "done" with it" (rougly translated)

so.... admire youre "crappy" gear... if you have crappy

to be honest no. for two reasons, one I've got pretty nice gear and two, the scene i play in most bass players have quite poor/minimal gear!

Not really jealous. I mean, I love seeing good gear and great players, and there are some people with basses I'd love to own, but at the end of the day, my Kubicki is my baby, and there are plenty of people around who lust after Kubicki basses, so I'm happy with what I have!

Used to, then I realized that above a certain price point, there isn't better or worse, just better or worse for me.
