Borrowed my dad's copy of Third Stage after rifling through his album collection. Haven't given it back yet.
Herb Alpert is great. That "Whipped Cream" cover...
Also, one I don't own but think is killer is Steady As She Goes by Hot Tuna. That's nice art.

I also remember seeing Mick Jagger for the first time on the back of their copy of the 12X5 album cover and getting really scared.

| | | | I used to buy Yes albums just for the Roger Dean cover and liner art.
I loved the band, so I pretty much knew Id be getting some great music.
The inside of CLOSE TO THE EDGE IS amazing.
Iwould have loved to have some of whatever he was using for "inspiration" back then.
Wouldn't touch it now, though.
Ever seen the FLASH album?
How about the inside pic on Steppenwolf's FOR LADIES ONLY
Worth tracking down.

This was the album that I picked that I actually liked......very cool pre-punk power pop - well, you define the mid 70's for me!

| | | | What about all the albums that had promo stuff in them?
Alice Cooper's School's Out had a cover that looked like an old flip-top school desk.
When you opened the cover, the inside had a picture of the inside of a desk, with a bunch of stuff a kid might have collected in his school desk, but the first release of the album also contained a pair of panties, made of paper, that added to the collection.
The panties were later banned as a fire hazard in shipping.
I have an album with them.
Billion Dollar Babies had a giant Billion Dollar Bill with pictures of babies with Alice makeup.

Most turned out to be turkeys, but the few I've struck gold with are Coroners 'RIP', the Dead Brain Cells debut, High On Fire's 'Blessed Black Wings' and perhaps the jewel in the crown, the second, self-titled Clutch record. |

Ive never bought an album just because of the artwork, but I dont judge those who have.

Not to mention killer bass work from Dennis Dunaway. A great bassist, whose name isn't brought up nearly enough in bassist discussions. Our band selecting to do a cover of Billion Dollar Babies was the kick I needed to begin looking for my fretless.

I mean...a REALLY close look? | I've had that since it came out (actually 2, one that has never been played).
I'm going home and check it out. Never really looked at it that close but I love the music. One of my favorite bands. |

I had no clue who they were or what they sounded like, purchased purely for the two cool cats versus two dweebs imagery, I figured it had to at least be interesting. This contained the studio version of "I Want You To Want Me," but it didn't hit until the Live at Budakon version came out, and then they got popular.
My friends and I were stunned at how good these guys were, I nearly wore the vinyl right out.

| | | | Yes. I have bought albums specifically for the cover artwork.
And I hung those on the wall as art and I have no intention of ever listening to what's on the vinyl as I don't have, nor do I plan to own a record player.
