I am travelling next week and staying at a business class hotel in North New Jersey. I am debating whether to take my new Carvin or old SX with me. I would rather bring the Carvin with me, but am concerned about the possibility of it being stolen when I am gone from the room during the day. Thoughts?

I'd say tying it to something unmovable would be a good option. Although I have no clue what it is you'd tie it to. In that case bring the SX, because I'd hate to risk leaving a new Carvin in a hotel room unattended. |

I put about $300 in mods in it, so it is worth about $500, too Does homeowners insurance cover by default, or do you need a rider?

but really just bring the carvin theres a pretty slim chance of someone stealing it from the hotel room or mabey the hotel has some way to lock it up for you theres an idea i am sure they have a safe in the hotel give that a shot anyway peace out.

I pay about AUS$200 a year, and they are covered wherever I go in the world from any damage or theft. I think it's the best money I've spent. |

Just don't let anyone see you putting it there as you're leaving. The idea, of course, is that people will think you're still inside sleeping.

So I have been locking the hard case and using a PC lock to tether the case handle to something fixed in the room. Although obviously not foolproof, it has always worked for me. It stops the casual interloper from either stealing or checking out and fooling around with my bass. They would have to break the handle to steal it, which would also make it difficult to carry. And lots more cameras have been added in hotel corridors and lobbies since this thread was started, so it would be just plain dumb to steal a bass and think no one would notice.

...Or you might try checking it in at the hotel office (Front desk) while you are out.

i've left an entire bands equiptment- instruments, amps, entire PA system, drums, ext, in a hotel room before.
if you wanted to be safe, locking it to something is a pretty good idea. but i never thought twice about it- the only people with access to your room work there, and would be seen on camera taking anything. |

I also (sometimes) use it when I leave my bass at a (shady) venue before the show.
