...I want to buy a jazz bass. I love Geddy's sound - have since high school. The Time Machine tour was just on VH1 Classic. I know it's more than the bass, but still, great sound. |

It's been my go to bass ever since....... |

I dunno, maybe I'm just comfortable with my bass after playing it the last 13 years but I just don't get the obsession. Not really a fan of any fender gear come to think about it. That's just me though, obviously no offense meant to anyone.

| | | | I went the opposite way of geddy(at least more recently, I think he had the jazz first), I switched from a jazz to a ric. The jazz is still a fantastic bass though. |

He certainly is on some really early Rush bootleg stuff that you can find.
After the P came the Rick. Then the Jazz. For a while he briefly messed with Steinberger, Wal etc.
Rick is still my favorite for Geddys sound. Though I have a Rick and a Jazz and I also reach for the Jazz basically always.

I think Alex uses so many effects in order to make it sound full. I love their music and they are all great players but I really don't care for Geddy's tone. |

I mainly hesitate, though, b/c I don't like to play the same thing everyone else plays. Plus, once I played the Lakland, I regretted my Fender purchases. Not because of a tone issue but the necks on the Laklands feel more comfortable to me.
With that said, I really like my Jazz much more than my P...I think that it's just what I grew up appreciating. I saw another post today going on & on about the glory of the P bass and how a Jazz is an inferior instrument in a rock context. I find that to be myopic and a pretty ridiculous statement...especially when you consider Geddy...

I do like the little vignettes including a band "Rash" complete with tuba, accordian, and trap set. Glad to see they've maintained a self-effacing sense of humor.

Why come into a thread if you don't like the person/artist/band and make lame comments?
Troll?

He physically can't sing anything recorded before 1983. Sounds awful on the old stuff.
