haha, that's pretty funny. Though, has anybody ever hear or read anything from Jaco on the subject? Everybody seems to assume that Jaco played 4 strings because he had something against basses with more strings.

It seems to me that maybe there just weren't many extended range fretless instruments around in those days. The first 5-string I ever played showed up at my local guitar store around 1988 or 1989 (bought it). The first 6-string in 1991 (bought it too). Jaco died in 1987. It may be entirely possible that he never even encountered a 5-string fretless let alone a 6 or 7-string. Jaco was never one to play by the rules. I'd bet that if Jaco had 5 minutes with this:

he'd be hooked.

It's still funny!

For what it's worth Jaco had a 5 string fretless acoustic tuned E-A-D-G-C that he played a bunch.

Way to go, Dave. Take a perfectly useless thread and turn it into a serious discussion.

Hmmm.... I find that to be in rather poor taste.

Not that I care.

Don't show it to Jaco's family though.

haha, well, you should see the original version. The original one says "Every time you masterbate, God kills a kitten." Hence the "killing kittens" euphamism for masterbation over at Fark.com

I find that offensive. The proper term is Gumbas, I believe.
