Expanding musical knowledge: getting a guitar and need some help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so im trying to expand my musical knowledge and i want to get a guitar to get a better understanding of mixing both bass and guitar.

I was thinking on getting an epiphone BB king sig. I like the looks and the vari-tone control seem to be a very useful tool.

But what i dont know is what kind of amp get. i want a cheap (in europe) amp 50-100 watt.

I would also apreciate some advise in what kind of effects should i get to get sounds like in one hoy minute and mothers milk albums from the RHCP.

Thx in advance, Alex.

I like the Vox sound for guitar, they make decent combos 50-100W with pretty good sound imo. Check them out.

I strongly advise to check out Ibanez Artcore line of guitars, they make excellent hollow-bodies IMO/IME

I agree with him.

The Epiphone isn't bad though and the varitone switch is definitely not a gimmick. It actually does allow you to get a lot of different sounds out of an instrument. I have a Gibson 137 custom with one and its like having 5 sets of completely different pickups in it at once.

As with all Gibson products, if you do end up buying it make sure you check it over really, really, really carefully. Quality control can be iffy and while some of their stuff is very good some of its just so-so.

I love the lil' Epiphone Valve Jr. amp. A lot more than their guitars.

I know the guitar isnt going to be marvelous, but in the long run ill get a gibson 57 classic in the neck and a 57 plus in the bridge.

Ive been looking at amp and i have found that line 6 is making this: http://es.line6.com/spideriii120/ it looks fine has some stuff on it and has enough power for small rehersals if i ever get to one as a guitarrist.

The gibson SG's are very comfortable and easy to play. I have a Gibson SG Standard (no QC issues at all). I read that BB King model is one of the most difficult to play and make it sound good. Its not recommended for beginners according to the Gibson Forum posts that I've read in the past. It might be a combination of the neck thickness and frets. I don't remember the specifics though.

Did you check out the Line6 Tube combos?

They look interesting. They don't have any around here yet, so I don't know how they sound. But Line6 did pair up with Bogner for the amp's design.
