Hi guys , I am writing about my flat mate experience with Lava cable (http://www.lavacable.com/
He had ordered a cable from them. In case some of you don't know , they are quite expensive as they made custom. Priced at 150 USD for one + 23 USD of shipping to Berlin Germany + 24 euro of import tax.
After receiving the cable, it was faulty, the finish was not 100%. Cable was working fine but the socket was moving. For a cable of that price, I think any customer should hope for an amazingly well made cable.
After getting in touch with the company they agreed in writing to a refund if the cable was sent back (at his own cost of 4 euro).
After agreeing to refund the cable in writing via email, they simply sent back another cable (another 24 euro to pay as import tax), I personally think that if a company sends back something, they could declare it as gift for the customer not to pay tax AGAIN on it. That's what courtesy tells me. Or maybe good business attitude.
When getting in touch to ask for a refund (which they had agreed to), they simply said "no we will not refund , you get what you paid for"
Yes the site says "all sales are final" , but then why agree to a refund?
I am thinking this company simply took advantage of the distance to not hold their words that they would refund.
In the end its a 200 USD cable he's never gonna get to use, because of course they refused refund when the second cable was already sent back (to avoid paying tax on it again)
I find it strange that a company thinks its ok to treat professional bassist like this, amateur musicians would never spend that kind of money on a cable. Unless they are lawyers or dentist.
I would not encourage any one to do business with them, a company who has such customer service (all emails have been kept) should strongly revise their attitude towards customers (in my honest opinion), even more if they sell such an expensive product.
So in the end : never again , and both as professional bassist we will try to convince people not to do business with them in any way.
I do understand that this is maybe a "one time thing" and I really know how forums work, with people creating a can of worm. That's its not good to post unless its about "what's the best bass for metal?"
To moderators : you can delete the thread if you find it "not right" ... I do think its important to warn people that companies charging big money, do not keep their word in any way, and simply refer you to their warranty policy.
over and out
